Find Kearny County Court Dates

Start with the public calendar when you need a Kearny County court date, then confirm it against the newest setting in the court docket and any notice the court sent you. A Kearny County court calendar shows when a case is set, what type of hearing is planned, and which court controls the date. Dates can shift, though. A reset or continuance in a Kansas case may move things after the calendar was first posted. When a listing looks empty, a notice conflicts with the calendar, or a courtroom assignment is unclear, the Kearny County District Court clerk is the office that can settle it.

The Kearny County Court Calendar

Kearny County publishes its hearings through the 25th Judicial District Kearny calendar. The page offers List, Week, and Month views. Those are just three layouts of one publication. They are not three separate court dockets. Filters let you set start and end dates and type a search term. You can also include past events and pick a specific calendar. Choose Kearny County District Court rather than leaving the filter set to all six counties in the district.

A calendar entry is helpful, yet it is not the full case record. The events index in Kansas CaseSearch may carry a newer setting than the public calendar does. A written notice or order often spells out appearance terms with more precision. Sometimes the Kearny County court calendar reports no published events for a month. That message only describes the publication layer. It does not prove the court has no hearings.

The official calendar page at the 25th Judicial District source shows these controls and views.

The controls narrow the published Kearny County court dates. For confirmation, the clerk and the case events index carry the real weight.

Kearny County Calendar Controls

Each control on the local court calendar does one job. Date fields limit the period shown. A search term narrows published text. But it is not a true party-name or case-number lookup. Show Past Events pulls older published items back into view. Print, iCalendar, and Notify Me let you save or follow the publication. None of them turns a calendar listing into an official court order.

Municipal cases take a different route. The Lakin and Deerfield city event calendars are not municipal-court dockets. For a city traffic or ordinance matter, confirm the date with the municipal clerk listed on the citation.

How to Find Your Court Date

When a date truly matters, use more than one channel. Kearny County offers online, phone, counter, terminal, mail, fax, and notice-based paths. The fastest public source comes first, and the clerk who can resolve a conflict comes last.

  1. Open Kansas CaseSearch, select District, choose Kearny County, and locate the correct case by number or another permitted field.
  2. Read the newest public setting or event. Record the date, time, court, judge, setting type, and status.
  3. Check the Kearny calendar for the same date. Use its county filter, date range, and search terms.
  4. Compare both online sources with the summons, citation, notice, or order received in the case.
  5. Call Cherie Rutherford's office at 620-271-6254 or ask at the front counter at 304 N Main in Lakin when details conflict.
  6. Use the second-floor public computer for permitted information not shown remotely. Written requests may also go by fax or mail.

Mail for the clerk goes to P.O. Box 64, Lakin, KS 67860, and the fax is 620-355-7462. Published hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central. The jury status line is separate. Do not call it for general calendar questions. Note: a courthouse terminal may show permitted material left off the internet, but it cannot display sealed or legally restricted information.

Empty Kearny County Court Calendar

An empty Kearny County court calendar calls for a cross-check, not a conclusion. First, make sure Kearny County District Court is the selected calendar. Widen the date range and recheck the month. Then open the case in Kansas CaseSearch and read the latest events. A hearing can sit in the case system. It may never appear as a published calendar event.

Empty does not mean canceled. Keep the issued notice and call the district court clerk before deciding that no appearance is required.

An online tool can stall on a browser check. It may simply show no event. Fall back to the public terminal and the front counter. A phone request can confirm basic calendar information. Mail or fax suits a filed copy better than a rushed date check. Local policy allows three business days for information and copy requests. So call the clerk for anything urgent.

Reading a Court Setting

A setting is a scheduled step in the case, not automatically a trial. Read every field together. The newest operative event matters most, since the events index may keep an old setting alongside a later reset. If a field is blank, do not guess. Ask the Kearny County District Court clerk.

DateThe scheduled date. Compare it with the newest order or notice.
TimeThe appearance time, which may be individual or part of a grouped call.
CourtroomThe room or facility if published. Confirm a blank or changed assignment.
JudgeThe assigned or presiding judicial officer shown for that setting.
Setting TypeThe stage, such as motion hearing, pretrial, arraignment, sentencing, or trial.
StatusA current, reset, continued, passed, or canceled marker when supplied.

A docket call may bundle many cases for scheduling or announcements. Evidence does not necessarily begin there. Likewise, a pass or not-reached entry is not a dismissal. The linked order, a later event, or the clerk supplies the missing context.

Kearny County Setting Terms

The 25th Judicial District rules support several local court calendar terms. Use the label actually printed in the case rather than forcing a generic code onto it. The district publishes no complete Kearny County abbreviation list, so plain descriptions are the safer choice.

Motion Day
A recurring district assignment for short motions, set through the clerk as directed by the judge.
Special setting
A longer hearing arranged through the assigned judge's office. Local rules distinguish settings over 30 minutes.
Pretrial conference
A case-management setting before trial. Local Rule 30.1 addresses pretrial information and allows phone or video conferences in some cases.
Continuance or reset
A move to another date. The old event may remain in the event history.
Published event
An item placed on the public district calendar, which may not include each case setting.

Remote appearance is never automatic. The court posts no standing Kearny County video link. Follow the order in your case, or contact the clerk or the assigned judge's office for current instructions.

Resets, Continuances, and Cancellations

One reset can scatter several lines across the Kearny County court docket. You may see the first setting and a motion asking to move it. An order granting that ask may follow, along with the new date. Read the entries in order. Then find the newest setting that still stands. A continuance only moves the hearing; the case itself stays open. A cancellation on a public calendar often says nothing about what became of the case behind it.

Verify any change against the filed order or the latest notice. When the Kearny County court calendar and CaseSearch disagree, call the clerk. Weather, holidays, courtroom swaps, and judge changes can happen. A standing county notice may not cover every case. The Kearny policy page gives the clerk's route. The case event itself is where a formal change shows up.

Note: Saving an iCalendar entry does not push later changes into a personal calendar. Recheck the live court source.

Kearny County Hearing Reminders

The statewide Kansas Hearing Reminders service offers a text-alert route. It can reduce the chance of losing track of a date, but the reminder does not replace the order, newest case event, or clerk confirmation. A missing text must never be treated as a cancellation.

The official reminder service is shown in the Kansas Judicial Branch source.

Kearny County court hearing reminder portal

Alerts from the portal can flag upcoming Kearny County court dates, though the official case setting still governs if anything conflicts.

One more calendar tool exists. The Kansas Self-Help Center offers a hearing-calendar search covering the next seven days, filterable by county or judge.

That seven-day window is handy for a quick glance at the Kearny County calendar, yet it works best alongside the docket itself; for a case-specific event, the clerk's confirmation still carries more weight when details differ.

Kearny County Jury Calendar

Jury status runs on its own channel. The Kearny jury page tells jurors to call 620-271-6120 and press 2. For a Monday jury trial, the recorded status is reliable after 5:30 p.m. Sunday or early Monday. Other jury updates come out after 5 p.m. the evening before. These rules cover jury service only, not every hearing on the district court docket.

The page also gives reporting instructions. Jurors report to the second floor by 8:30 a.m. and use the west doors. Allow time to spare for parking and entry. Cell phones, chemical sprays, firearms, and other weapons should stay in the vehicle. Phones are banned from the courtroom. If you are a party with a case setting, call the main district court number rather than the jury menu.

What To Do If You Miss a Setting

Act fast after missing a Kearny County court date. Check Kansas CaseSearch for a new event, keep your notice, and call Cherie Rutherford's office at 620-271-6254. If you have a lawyer, contact them too. Waiting for the public calendar to post a new date is a mistake, because the judge, not the website, controls what happens next.

Missed a setting? A missed appearance can lead to a failure-to-appear entry or other court action, depending on the case.

Ask the clerk what event was entered and how the next Kearny County setting will be communicated.

Obtain legal advice before taking a step that could affect rights, bond terms, or a pending deadline.

Missed your setting? The calendar can help you find the next public one. It cannot erase a missed appearance, though. Run a Kearny County case search to see the latest public event on the docket. Is the entry restricted or too new? The courthouse terminal or the clerk still has it.
